How Upcover disrupted the business insurance industry with one mobile application

Experience Digital delivered an end-to-end project from design, development, implementation and marketing to meet the business goals set by Upcover for 2020. The project was launched to make business insurance simple. With the gig economy as their target market, the brief was to create an online platform and mobile application that was accessible and seamless.

Upcover is a 2019 startup with big plans to disrupt the conventional insurance industry. An Australian insurtech application aiming to simplify small business insurance for Australia’s $5B SME market. Upcover is designed for the modern business owner, startups, contractors, freelancers and gig workers boosting a simple platform to aid with business insurance. The concept has been designed for you, created by people like you!

Experience Digital accepted the challenge to bring this vision to life by presenting and converting Upcover’s concepts into a fully visual mobile app and web experience. The brief required the development, marketing and implementation teams to collaborate to fulfil the requirements involved in designing, developing and launching a product inclusive of go-to-market marketing systems and strategies.

Our approach

Experience Digital accepted the challenge to bring this vision to life by presenting and converting Upcover’s concepts into a fully visual mobile app and web experience. As commented by one of the co-founders, “Experience Digital provided a high level of customer service throughout the entirety of the project.”

As a team, thorough deep-dive consultations were completed on the initial product idea, revenue model and engagement plan, as well as conceptualising and building a prototype. Software developers, together with the in-house graphic design team were able to successfully build a minimum viable product ready to launch and hit the market.

The outcome

Since mid-2020, Upcover can confidently provide a mobile application to their target markets. The scope of work included the launching of their product for use, offering the fast-paced gig economy the option of tailored, affordable and simple insurance, on the go. The platform provides a pay-as-you-go structure to the world of insurance, designed to be flexible. Users have the capability of accessing instant quotes and subscription-based insurances in real-time, with no fuss – across all mobile devices.

The success of the project has formed a partnership to support Upcover with the international growth of the business. Upcover was one of the final 12 startups in the Antler program securing $100,000 in investment to start developing the business. Cofounders then took to the stage at the program’s inaugural Demo Day, pitching to more than 1,000 people. With the investment, there are plans to expand globally.
